Water is the most important natural resource. To ensure the supply of clean drinking water to humanity worldwide, is one of the United Nations Millennium Goals and a Challenge that is second to none. Growing world population, increasing pollution and higher demands on drinking water pose a gigantic challenge. Therefore, instrAction makes an important contribution.

For the purification of drinking water, various technologies are in use, of which some have been established for a long time. Mechanical filtration, distillation, reverse osmosis (RO), filtration through absorbers, such as activated carbon, or softening through ion exchangers represent only a small selection of the most important. All of these technologies have some serious disadvantages, such as low yield, high energy requirement, fast aging, limited selectivity, unsuitable water quality, need for after-treatment etc. In addition, none of the procedures covers the entire spectrum of contaminants, so usually different technologies have to be combined for optimum impact.
